Join us for the 12th annual RetroFest ™ celebration, May 23 and 24 in the “Classic Car Capitol of Canada,” Chatham, Ontario.  In what is sure to be another great year for  Retrofest ™ events. There will be hundreds of collector cars gather on the streets of Chatham’s historic downtown core. Joining the selection of exceptional automobiles, will be a number of fun activities including the OLG Classic Car Cruise, free movie in Tecumseh Park, music, hot air balloon rides (weather permitting), and a host of other nostalgic fun for the entire family!

His entry for the 2014 Mayor For A Day contest was drawn by Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope on April 3rd, 2014.

His prize consists of a VIP tour of the Chatham-Kent area. His VIP tour will start at 12 noon on May 23rd with a tour of the RM Classic Car exhibit, RM Auctions is the global leader in the collector car auction industry. Next stop will be at Bayside Brewery to sample some great local micro-brews. After that the tour will continue on to Smith and Wilson Estate Winery, a third generation century farm located on the shores of Lake Erie. Final stop will be to lead off the Retrofest Car Cruise, a cruise that consists of over 500 classic cars that ends in the heart of Downtown Chatham.

Prior to the big weekend we are having a Contest for Miss RetroFest. It is an on-line Photo Contest where the winner will receive a star VIP treatment at RetroFest, prizes and retro-makeover and photoshoot with Sara Burnie Photography.

Friday Evening, May 23

OLG Classic Car Cruise 
Starting at the John D. Bradley Convention Center, 565 Richmond Street, at 7:00 p.m., participants will cruise along the Thames River entering downtown Chatham around 7:30 p.m.

Street-like Party Atomosphere
Once you are done cruising around King Street, you can park and enjoy the music and visit the local restaurants and bars. Or you can get tickets head at for ROCK N ROAR for Sophia event at the St. Clair College Capitol Theatre which will feature the bands: Walkin ’47; Face For Radio; Brooklyn Roebuck and Superfly. Movie in the Park
Join us in Tecumseh Park at dusk for a movie experience the whole family can enjoy! This years choice if Disney’s PLANES. Bring a homemade card board box car for a mock drive inn movie. You will be lined up in front of the screen and you could win a prize just for being there with you homemade car! Thank you Scouts for the prizes. Prizes will be at random. Popper’s Kettle Corn will be there to.

Kent Historic Auto Club Annual Car Show
Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the corner of King Street and Fifth Street. Participation plaques will be given to the first 500 people to register. Please note the show is limited to classic cars, 1989 and older.

Vendors will be setting up in Tecumseh park with lots of food, crafts and candy. There will be a Hot Air Balloon ride set up again this year (weather permitting). The RE\MAX balloon is scheduled for 9am until noon only. First come first serve and only if weather is favourable. There will be no cost to ride the balloon so get there early.

There will be Junior Judges again this year sponsored by Hagerty. They will teach the kids what to look for and how to grade. The Junior Judges will give their own plaque to what they think deserves their award. Junior Judges will meet in the lobby at the Capitol Theatre. Junior Judges this year will be picked by a colouring contest done by Jeff Cominsky and All Risk Insurance. Junior Judges are to be between 6 and 15 years old.

We will be having a Soap Box Derby for the kids on William Street. Registration starts at 9am. You must have your own car and it must meet the Soap Box Derby requirements.@ . The Optimist Club of Chatham and the Scouts along with HSRA has agreed to assist us with this event which will be very exciting to see with the flatbed trailer as a ramp. There will be prizes handed but you must register when you arrive.

We will have a local group of Burlesque dancers called the “Hot Flashes”. They will perform downstairs at the St. Clair College Capitol Theatre. Burlesque dancin is an art form and is tought at the Active Life Style. The shows will be PG, however will be restricted to adults only due to its suggestive nature. Shows will be at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

Also at the St. Clair College Capitol Theatre, there will be RM Cars on the Stage and at the Enterance as well as Leadwave Technologies has set up a public Lounge and VIP area for you to tour through and get to know Leadwave and what they are all about.

We will have the face painter for the kids and we will have hair streakers for everyone. Ever wanted to cover the grey with WILD COLOURS? Here will be your chance. Also in the Tecumseh Park will be a band on the bandshell called the LUEY; Rock Climbing Wall; Jousting; Mechanical Bull Riding; Superslide; Bouncy Castle and we are still trying to acquire a 14 car bumper car for this event! Tons of food vendors, all kinds and Craft vendors; 50/50 tickets, car raffles, motocycle raffles and information booths. Something for everyone this year. Don’t forget to make it out to the Tecumseh Park on William Street 10am until 4:30pm.

Saturday night you can get tickets to celebrate the Beatles 50th anniversary to North America, we have been lucky enough to get the number
one McCartney/Beatles and Wings cover band in North America. The group is called the McCartney Years, and I am excited to have them come to our area during the Chatham RetroFest weekend.
