2017 Sidewalk Construction

2017 Sidewalk Construction

Sidewalk Construction for Downtown Chatham, 2017

Giorgi Bros. is the contractor doing the sidewalks for downtown Chatham.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent requests that any questions from the businesses flow through himself, Paola Magliaro – Engineering Technologist or the HDTC-BIA.

A representative from Giorgi Bros. will deal with the businesses directly when they begin work in front of their stores. That way the businesses will receive firsthand information and can get immediate answers.

The construction will start on July 4th, 2017 with the ‘blue marked area’ on the map. This blue identifies where a Curb Machine is required. Therefore, construction will begin at Adelaide to 5th Street. The road will be blocked to one lane only and “no parking” will be allowed during the day through that section. Road detours will be posted from the Municipality.

Anticipated timeline:

First is the Curbs and sidewalks

On Phase 1: is North Side of King street from Adelaide to William Street

Part two of Phase 1 is William to the Boardwalk

On Phase 2: is the South Side from 5th to William

Phase 3 is 5th Street to Municipal Centre

Phase 4 is the opposite side from Forsyth to 5th Street, including 4th Street.

Giorgi Bros must give a minimum of 48 hours’ notice for road closures to go out.

Completion date is September 1, 2017.

5th Street Bridge has a separate contractor doing that work. The Bridge will be closed as of June 28, 2017 through December 2017.

Replacement of sidewalks only go up to the 12-18, where building meets the sidewalk. 4th and 5th Street is only the paver stones exist.

Grates around the trees will be removed and not replaced.

Benches are being removed, refurbished and replaced and new garbage receptacles will be installed as construction happens.

Regards,
