Downtown Chatham – The Place to Go

Downtown Chatham is a destination point for many, many people.  The architecture, riverfront, restorations, restaurants and unique shopping are drawing cards for many groups of people.

Photographers love the nooks and crannies in Downtown Chatham.  It’s not uncommon to see engagement photos taken in and around the Retrosuites Hotel.  We’ve also seen photos taken in the walkway adjacent to St Clair Capitol Theatre and in Zonta Park.   After the engagement comes the wedding.  Again, Downtown Chatham can be seen in many wedding photos.

Artists frequent spots in Downtown Chatham for the ambiance and the scenery.  I recently met an artist sitting along The Promenade.  The peacefulness and tranquility of the waterfront was the drawing card for this particular artist.  Another venue frequented by artists is ARTspace.  If you haven’t been in ARTspace lately, I encourage to take a look.  The exhibit is everchanging and it’s not uncommon to find the artist working at ARTspace.

Visitors and travellers enjoy the variety of the downtown restaurants.  For breakfast, lunch or dinner, tourists and visitors have an abundance of choices.  And, often they will find the owner of the restaurant working hard and greeting them at the door.

Shoppers recently discovered the variety of offerings in Downtown Chatham at Fashion’s Night Out.  A great night, organized by Sonya Roe — all the participating merchants partnered with Vogue to bring Fashion’s Night Out to Chatham.

People are often seen walking their four-legged friends throughout Downtown.  Many of the businesses have “dog-bowls” outside their store front.  In fact, some of our Downtown businesses have resident dogs and cats in their stores. And if you are just out for a walk, the downtown business windows are ever evolving and always interesting to enjoy.

History buffs and architecture fans enjoy walking throughout Downtown Chatham.  The various historical plaques mounted on buildings in Downtown Chatham provide a history of the area.  The victorian architecture  is a delight to many.
